Author Profile

H. P. Lovecraft was an American author born on August 20, 1890, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the only child of Winfield Scott Lovecraft and Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft. Lovecraft was a sickly child and spent most of his childhood reading books and writing stories. He was fascinated by science fiction, horror, and fantasy literature. Lovecraft's father was institutionalized for psychosis when Lovecraft was only three years old. His mother, who was also in poor health, was unable to care for him, so he was raised by his maternal grandparents. Lovecraft's grandfather, Whipple Van Buren Phillips, was a wealthy businessman who introduced him to the world of literature and science. Lovecraft's writing career began in 1917 when he started writing for amateur publications. His first published work was "The Alchemist" in 1916. Lovecraft's writing style was unique, and he is known for his use of cosmic horror, which involves the fear of the unknown and the incomprehensible. Some of Lovecraft's best-known work
