Timothy Titcomb was a pseudonym used by the American author and editor, Josiah Gilbert Holland. He was born on July 24, 1819, in Belchertown, Massachusetts, and was the youngest of four children. Holland's father was a farmer, and his mother was a homemaker. He attended the Belchertown Academy and later graduated from the Berkshire Medical College in 1844.
After practicing medicine for a few years, Holland decided to pursue a career in writing. He became the editor of the Springfield Republican newspaper in 1849 and later founded his own publication, Scribner's Monthly, in 1870. Holland was a prolific writer and wrote poetry, essays, and novels. He was also a popular public speaker and lecturer.
Holland's most famous work is his novel, The Bay Path, which was published in 1857. The novel tells the story of a young woman's journey from Massachusetts to Connecticut in the 17th century. Holland's other notable works include Bitter Sweet (1858), Gold Foil (1859), and Arthur Bonnicastle (1873).
