Stephen Vincent Benét was an American author, poet, and dramatist born on July 22, 1898, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of three children born to Colonel James Walker Benét and his wife Frances Neill Rose Benét. His father was a military officer and his mother was a descendant of a prominent Virginia family. Benét was educated at Yale University, where he studied English and philosophy. He began writing poetry at a young age and published his first collection of poems, "Five Men and Pompey," in 1915, at the age of 17. He continued to write poetry throughout his life, and his work was widely praised for its lyricism and emotional depth. In addition to his poetry, Benét also wrote novels, short stories, and plays. His most famous work is the epic poem "John Brown's Body," which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1929. The poem tells the story of the American Civil War through the eyes of soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Benét's other notable works include the novel "The Devil and Danie
