Rudyard Kipling was an English author and poet born on December 30, 1865, in Bombay, India. He was the son of John Lockwood Kipling, an artist and teacher, and Alice MacDonald Kipling, a writer. Kipling spent his early years in India, where he was homeschooled by his mother and learned to speak Hindi fluently.
At the age of six, Kipling was sent to England to attend school, but he struggled to adapt to the strict and formal education system. He returned to India at the age of 16 and began working as a journalist for local newspapers. He also wrote short stories and poems, which were published in various magazines.
In 1889, Kipling moved to London and began working as a full-time writer. He published his first collection of short stories, "Plain Tales from the Hills," in 1888, which was followed by "Soldiers Three" and "The Phantom Rickshaw."
