Robert Sheckley was an American science fiction writer born on July 16, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended New York University and served in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked as a writer for various magazines and publishers. Sheckley's writing career began in the 1950s, and he quickly gained a reputation as a master of satirical science fiction. He wrote over 15 novels and over 400 short stories, many of which were published in science fiction magazines such as Galaxy and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Some of Sheckley's best-known works include the novels "Immortality, Inc." (1958), "The Status Civilization" (1960), and "Mindswap" (1966).
