Robert John Buckley, also known as R.J.B, was an Irish author and journalist born in Dublin in 1836. He was the son of a wealthy merchant and received a private education before attending Trinity College Dublin. After completing his studies, Buckley began his career as a journalist, writing for various newspapers and magazines in Ireland and England. He was known for his insightful and often controversial articles on politics, religion, and social issues. In 1867, Buckley published his most famous work, Ireland as It Is, a detailed account of the social and economic conditions in Ireland at the time. The book was praised for its honesty and accuracy, and it became a bestseller in both Ireland and England. Buckley continued to write and publish throughout his career, covering a wide range of topics including history, literature, and travel.
