Marie Sklodowska Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist who made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity. She was born on November 7, 1867, in Warsaw, Poland, to a family of intellectuals. Her father was a teacher of mathematics and physics, and her mother was a pianist.
Curie was a brilliant student, and she excelled in science and mathematics. She attended the Sorbonne in Paris, where she met her future husband, Pierre Curie. Together, they conducted research on radioactivity, a term that Marie coined. In 1903, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on radioactivity.
After Pierre's death in 1906, Marie continued her research and became the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for her discovery of radium and polonium. She was also the first person to win two Nobel Prizes in different fields.
