Marie Corelli was a British author who was born on May 1, 1855, in London, England. She was the daughter of Charles Mackay, a journalist and poet, and his wife Emily. Corelli was educated privately and began writing at a young age. She published her first novel, A Romance of Two Worlds, in 1886, which became a bestseller and established her as a popular author. Corelli went on to write over 20 novels, many of which were also bestsellers. Her works were known for their romantic and mystical themes, and often featured supernatural elements. Some of her most popular novels include The Sorrows of Satan (1895), The Master-Christian (1900), and The Life Everlasting (1911). Despite her success as an author, Corelli was often criticized by literary critics for her melodramatic style and lack of literary merit. However, her popularity with the reading public remained strong, and she continued to write and publish until her death in 1924.
