Margarita Spalding Gerry was an American author, born on June 23, 1908, in New York City. She was the daughter of a wealthy family and grew up in a privileged environment. She attended private schools and later graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1930. After college, Gerry worked as a journalist for various publications, including The New Yorker and Vogue. She also wrote several children's books, including The Toy Shop, which was published in 1944. The Toy Shop is a heartwarming story about a group of toys that come to life at night and have adventures in the toy shop. Gerry's other notable works include The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge, which was published in 1942. The book tells the story of a small lighthouse on the Hudson River that is threatened by the construction of a large bridge. The book became a classic and is still popular today.
