Herbert George Wells

Herbert George Wells was a British author born on September 21, 1866, in Bromley, Kent, England. He was the youngest of four children and grew up in poverty. Wells' father was a professional cricketer and a domestic servant, while his mother worked as a housekeeper. Despite his humble beginnings, Wells was a bright student and won a scholarship to study at the Normal School of Science in London.
Wells' early career was as a teacher, but he soon turned to writing. His first novel, The Time Machine, was published in 1895 and became an instant success. Wells went on to write many more science fiction novels, including The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau. These works established him as one of the most important writers of the genre.
In addition to his science fiction works, Wells also wrote social commentary and political novels.
