Helen Hay was an American author, born on September 8, 1875, in New York City. She was the daughter of John Milton Hay, a former Secretary of State under Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Helen grew up in a family of writers and diplomats, which influenced her love for literature and writing. Hay attended Radcliffe College and later studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. She began her writing career as a journalist, writing for various newspapers and magazines. In 1913, she published her first book, a collection of poems titled "The Horse of the Desert." She went on to write several more books, including "The Rose of Dawn" (1920), which is considered her best work. "The Rose of Dawn" is a historical romance novel set in the 16th century. It tells the story of a young woman named Rosamund, who falls in love with a Spanish nobleman named Don Juan de la Vega.
