Sir Henry Rider Haggard was an English writer born on June 22, 1856, in Bradenham, Norfolk, England. He was the eighth child of a barrister and was educated at Ipswich Grammar School and London University. After completing his studies, he worked as a barrister for a short time before turning to writing. Haggard's first novel, King Solomon's Mines, was published in 1885 and became an instant success. The book was followed by a series of adventure novels set in Africa, including Allan Quatermain, She, and Ayesha. Haggard's works were known for their vivid descriptions of exotic locations, thrilling action, and romantic themes. In addition to his adventure novels, Haggard also wrote historical fiction, including the popular novel Cleopatra. He was also a prolific writer of non-fiction, including works on agriculture, politics, and travel.
