H. G. Wells

Herbert George Wells, better known as H. G. Wells, was a British author born on September 21, 1866, in Bromley, Kent, England. He was the fourth and last child of Joseph Wells, a shopkeeper, and Sarah Neal, a former domestic servant. Wells' parents were both working-class and struggled to make ends meet, which made him acutely aware of the social and economic inequalities of his time.
Wells attended the Normal School of Science in London, where he studied biology under the famous Thomas Henry Huxley. He later worked as a teacher, a journalist, and a writer, publishing his first book, The Time Machine, in 1895. The book was an instant success and established Wells as a leading figure in the science fiction genre.
