Fritz Reuter Leiber was an American writer of fantasy, horror, and science fiction. He was born on December 24, 1910, in Chicago, Illinois, and died on September 5, 1992, in San Francisco, California. Leiber was the son of the famous Shakespearean actor Fritz Leiber Sr. and his wife Virginia Bronson Leiber.
Leiber grew up in a literary environment and began writing at an early age. He attended the University of Chicago and graduated with a degree in psychology and philosophy. After graduation, he worked as a reporter and editor for various newspapers and magazines.
Leiber's first published work was a short story called "Two Sought Adventure," which appeared in Unknown magazine in 1939. He went on to write many more short stories, novellas, and novels, including the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series, which is considered his most famous work. The series follows the adventures of two sword and sorcery heroes, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, as they travel through a fictional world called Nehwon.
