Ernest Bramah (1868-1942) was an English author who wrote a variety of works, including mystery novels, short stories, and humorous essays. He was born in Manchester, England, and spent much of his childhood in Kent. Bramah worked as a clerk in London before becoming a full-time writer.
Bramah's most famous works are the Kai Lung stories, a series of tales set in a fictional ancient China. The stories feature the character Kai Lung, a wandering storyteller who uses his wit and cunning to outsmart his enemies. The first collection of Kai Lung stories, The Wallet of Kai Lung, was published in 1900 and was a critical and commercial success. Bramah went on to write several more collections of Kai Lung stories, including Kai Lung's Golden Hours (1922) and Kai Lung Unrolls His Mat (1928).
In addition to the Kai Lung stories, Bramah wrote several mystery novels featuring the detective Max Carrados.
