Elizabeth Gordon was an American author and illustrator, born on August 17, 1866, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of a wealthy businessman and grew up in a privileged environment. Gordon was interested in art from a young age and attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She later studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, where she honed her skills as an artist. Gordon's first book, "Flower Children," was published in 1900 and was an instant success. The book featured illustrations of children dressed as flowers, and the text was written in verse. The book was so popular that it spawned a series of similar books, including "Bird Children," which was published in 1902. "Bird Children" was a collection of illustrations of children dressed as birds, accompanied by poems about each bird. The book was a critical and commercial success and cemented Gordon's reputation as a children's book author and illustrator.
