David Mason is an American poet, novelist, and critic born on December 13, 1954, in Bellingham, Washington. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and attended Whitman College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He later received his Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from the University of Iowa. Mason has published several books of poetry, including The Buried Houses (1991), The Country I Remember (1996), and Ludlow: A Verse Novel (2007). His poetry has been featured in numerous literary journals and anthologies, and he has received several awards for his work, including the Colorado Book Award and the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Creativity in Motion Prize. In addition to his poetry, Mason has also written several novels, including The Scarlet Libretto (2012) and News from the Village (2010), which was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.
