Willard attended Columbia University, where he earned a degree in English literature. After graduation, Willard worked as a journalist for various newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He also wrote several non-fiction books on topics such as politics, economics, and history. In 1998, Willard published his first novel, The Fall of Ulysses, which became a bestseller and earned critical acclaim. The book tells the story of a young man named Ulysses who struggles to find his place in the world and overcome his personal demons. The novel explores themes of identity, love, and redemption, and is considered a modern classic of American literature.
