Camille Saint-Saëns was a French composer, pianist, and organist born on October 9, 1835, in Paris, France. He was a child prodigy who began playing the piano at the age of three and composed his first piece at the age of six. He was a prolific composer who wrote in a variety of genres, including opera, symphonies, chamber music, and solo piano works.
Saint-Saëns studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won numerous prizes and awards. He began his career as a church organist, and later became the organist at the Madeleine Church in Paris. He was also a professor of music at the École Niedermeyer, where he taught composition and piano.
Some of Saint-Saëns' best-known works include his opera Samson et Dalila, his Symphony No. 3 (the "Organ Symphony"), and his Carnival of the Animals. He also wrote numerous other works, including concertos for piano, violin, and cello, as well as chamber music and songs.
