Bram Stoker was an Irish author born on November 8, 1847, in Dublin, Ireland. He was the third of seven children born to Charlotte and Abraham Stoker. Bram was a sickly child and spent much of his early years bedridden. During this time, his mother would read him stories, which sparked his love for literature.
Stoker attended Trinity College in Dublin, where he studied mathematics. After graduation, he worked as a civil servant for ten years before becoming the manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London. It was during his time at the theatre that he met the famous actor Henry Irving, who would become his friend and mentor.
Stoker began writing in his spare time and published his first book, The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions in Ireland, in 1879. He went on to write several other non-fiction books before publishing his first novel, The Snake's Pass, in 1890. However, it was his 1897 novel, Dracula, that would become his most famous work.
