Benjamin M. Anderson, Jr. was an American economist and author, born on May 1, 1886, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in 1908 and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1911. Anderson began his career as an economics professor at Harvard University, where he taught from 1911 to 1918. He then worked for the National Bank of Commerce in New York City before joining the Chase National Bank in 1920, where he served as the chief economist until 1939. During his time at Chase National Bank, Anderson became known for his expertise in monetary policy and his opposition to the New Deal policies of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a vocal critic of the government's intervention in the economy and believed in the importance of free markets. In addition to his work in banking, Anderson was a prolific author.
