Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, and natural scientist who was born on July 28, 1866, in Kensington, London. She was the eldest of two children and grew up in a wealthy family. Her parents were interested in art and literature, and they encouraged her to pursue her interests in these areas. As a child, Beatrix was fascinated by nature and spent much of her time exploring the countryside. She was particularly interested in animals and would often sketch and paint them. She also developed a keen interest in botany and mycology, and she became an expert in these fields. In 1902, Beatrix published her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. The book was an instant success and has since become a classic children's book. It tells the story of a mischievous rabbit who disobeys his mother and ventures into Mr. McGregor's garden.
