Alexander Scott Withers was an American author and historian born on October 12, 1792, in Virginia. He was the son of a Revolutionary War veteran and grew up in a family that valued education and history. Withers attended Washington College in Virginia, where he studied law and literature. Withers began his career as a lawyer, but his passion for history led him to write several books on the subject. His most famous work is Chronicles of Border Warfare, which was published in 1831. The book is a detailed account of the conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers in the Ohio River Valley during the late 18th century. Withers' other notable works include The History of Virginia, The History of the United States, and The History of the War of 1812.
