Alanson M. Randol was an American author and historian born in 1841 in Illinois. He spent most of his life in the Midwest and was a veteran of the American Civil War, serving in the Union Army. After the war, Randol became a journalist and wrote for several newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune.
Randol's most famous work is Last Days of the Rebellion, a book that chronicles the final days of the Civil War and the events leading up to the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The book is based on Randol's personal experiences as a soldier and journalist during the war and is considered a valuable historical resource.
In addition to Last Days of the Rebellion, Randol wrote several other books on the Civil War, including The Civil War and Reconstruction in Alabama and The Civil War and Reconstruction in Florida. He also wrote a biography of Abraham Lincoln titled The Life and Public Services of Abraham Lincoln.
