Abbie Farwell Brown was an American author born on August 21, 1871, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Benjamin F. Brown, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, and Clara Neal Brown, a writer and poet. Abbie grew up in a literary family and was encouraged to pursue her passion for writing from a young age.
Abbie Farwell Brown attended Radcliffe College, where she studied English literature and graduated in 1893. She then worked as a teacher and a librarian before devoting herself full-time to writing. She published her first book, The Book of Saints and Friendly Beasts, in 1900, which became a popular children's book.
Brown's writing style was influenced by her love of mythology and folklore. She wrote several books based on myths and legends, including In the Days of Giants (1902), The Curious Book of Birds (1903), and The Lonesomest Doll (1928). In the Days of Giants is a collection of Norse myths retold for children, which became one of her most popular works.
